Back up F/C Alex Stepheson is transferring to a school closer to his family due to family health challenges. He played great in the 2008 NCAA tournament which saw the 'Heels lose to eventual champion, Kansas, in the Final Four.
PLUS starting backcourt (Lawson, Ellington) and outstanding 6th man (Green) have declared for the NBA draft.
Fortunately Ellington didn't stand out at the pre-draft camp and Green wants to be a lottery pick; so hopefully for Tarheel fans, those two will return and join Hansborough for another opportunity at the NCAA men's basketball championship.
Lawson is fast; and good. Is he ready for the NBA? I didn't think Raymond Felton was ready; and he's turned out the best yet from that class (McCants, May, Marvin Williams).

That's the problem with college athletics; namely basketball. Guys leave early leaving very little fluidity to the collegiate system. _ Jeff
