Coach Mike Salmon returns in 2010 to the Ice Storm after a three year hiatus. An original member of the team, Mike played in 2001 and 2002 as a defensive back and linebacker. In 2002 Vermont went on to win the championship of the New England Football League by defeating the New England Stars 18-0 in Boston, MA.
In 2003 Salmon retired from playing to concentrate on coaching. Over the next four years he coached the defensive backfield, special teams, running backs and in 2006 was elevated to the defensive coordinator position. That year, 2006, the team moved up to the Triple A level and entered the Empire Football League. The Ice Storm advanced to the second round in the national tournament before bowing to the eventual National runner-up team, the Albany Metro Mallers.
In 2007 Salmon took a leave from the Ice Storm and along with his wife Linda successfully formed a single A semi-pro football team located in Barre, VT. Salmon as the Vermont Ravens Head Coach for two years and defensive coordinator for one helped the team reach the New England Football league's championship game two out of three years.
Mike is a 1977 graduate of South Burlington High School and a former football player for the Rebels. Shortly after graduating from SBHS he met his wife Linda with whom he has shared the last 32 years. Together they have five children and eleven grandchildren.
Coach Salmon has been employed by Triangle Metal Fab in Milton for the past 14 years as shop Foreman. Residing in Colchester, the family enjoy boating on Lake Champlain, and cheering on the local sports teams from UVM, St. Michael's, the Lake Monsters and Frost Heaves. In his spare time Mike coaches the Colchester Rockets, who are the recreation department's 5-6 grade basketball team.
