GOON

NOT the great back-in-the-day movie "Goonies" but straight up GOON!

After Boston Red Sox outfielder Coco Crisp was intentionally hit by James Sheilds' pitch (presumably in retaliation to a hard slide Coco made into second base the night before), Coco charged the mound, ducked a right hook from Shields, landed a right to the back side of Shields head and then was wrapped up and wrestled to the ground by Tampa Bay Rays catcher Navarro.

Benches cleared and we all witnessed cheap shot Jonny Gomes, #31 of MLB's Tampa Bay Rays, come running out of the dugout and jump on a restrained Coco Crisp. Gomes wasn't trying to break up the fray, he started throwing punches to Coco's back and head. Then, as the ruckus heightened #13 Carl Crawford comes, literally, sliding in throwing shots at Crisp's head and face.

Now I'm entertained by brawls and I enjoy old school Ultimate Fighting Championship videos. But what a dirty, chippy, thug-type move.

Even IF Gomes or Crawford was sticking up for their pitcher or teammate who was the recipient of Coco's hard slide the game before, you don't start throwing punches on a guy who's already down.
