Are you KIDDING me!?!

In case you missed this comment, I thought I'd post it for all of you to read - in ref. to the "Olympics" post:

"Christian Donald Laettner (born August 17, 1969 in Angola, New York) is a retired American professional basketball player and entrepreneur who played 13 seasons in the NBA. He starred for the 1991 and 1992 NCAA champion Duke University Blue Devils. He is considered one of the greatest collegiate players of all time...guess he did a little more than fill water bottles and carry bags!"

And as a pro how many teams did he play on? Wait, wait, how many times was he an all-star? Oh yeah, does he have a NBA championship ring? Laettner = NBA STIFF!

-- thanks for the comments. I truly love them. But I will exploit any comment that is ridiculous, in my opinion. THAT seeming controversy is what keeps this blog & my Sunday night sports rant INTERESTING.

Peace y'all.

the fact that whatever that guys name was made the olympic team over a much more dominant shaq was a joke anyway... i think the nba careers of the two individuals here has spoken about who was a ball player and who was a ball boy...

FYI - the comments about Christian Laettner were not a creation of my own - they are what is posted on Wikipedia about him.

Perhaps you missed the point - college may have been his prime and that's ok. He made an Olympic Team, won gold and has two NCAA championships.

Looking back it is easy to say Laettner was a stiff and just a ball boy but at the time he was a elite college player. His production as a 6'11" F/C is the same that foreign countries are putting out on the court against the USA the last 8 years. Bigs that can shoot the ball from outside AND make foul shots. His senior year at Duke, Laettner shot 55.7% from 3pt range (54/97) and 82% from the foul line. He was the Naismith National College Player of the Year. That is why he made the team, and that is why during those Olympics he played in more games and logged more minutes then John Stockton.
I am not a Duke fan or a Laettner fan but I am also not a self proclaimed Duke Hater like the creator of this blog topic is.
Sure Laettner only made one All-Star game but railing on him for not winning a championship? You could add the names of Reggie Miller, John Stockton and Charles Barkley too. Even Karl Malone and Gary Payton had to tag along on Shaq and Kobe's coattails to win one.
What do you think of this team that the USA has sent to restore order to the universe and regain the gold? I think it is pretty balsy for us to proclaim ourselves as the favorites to win the Gold. Is it really such an upset if we lose? We haven't won a Gold in basketball for 8 years. In the meantime we've been getting beat down by countries who have sharp shooting guards and bigs who can run the floor set screens and pop mid range jumpers. Sounds like our USA basketball team needs a few more players like Christian Laettner was and a few less Allan Iversons.
