Say it ain't so ...

Manny to LA ...

at least it's the Dodgers and not the Angels; although Torre is a former Yankee ...

Manny was going to leave at the end of the season, at least Boston got something for him. I would have preferred another world championship but I guess all-star Jason Bay isn't a bad consolation prize.

Who knows, maybe Bay can bring new focus, energy, excitement & MIDDLE RELIEF PITCHING ...

Why the lament for Manny? Some Red Sox fans have even gone as far as to tear apart their Red Sox Nation Membership cards. I want to know why there are those who feel getting rid of Manny is a bad thing.
Seriously people say he has done so much for the game of baseball and for the town of baseball but really the guy is kind of a bum. He poses after every long fly ball (whether it goes over the fence or not) he sits in the dugout when his teammates all go on the field in a confrontation, and he was dogging it in the field in order to get his way (a trade or his option dropped.) Sure the guy can rake at the plate but what message has he and many other players with attitudes just like him sent to children who have watched him the last 10 years. If you don't think he has had that effect on hustle and sportsmanship in sports just take a look at highlights of last years Little League Word Series. You can see a 12 year old kid posing after hitting a home run.
Sure he is funny to laugh at and then brush his antics to the side by saying "Manny being Manny" but how long before we are saying "That's just Billy being Billy" or "That's just Mary being Mary".
If we are going to create idols or role models out of some of these athletes, let's make sure they are ones who play the game with respect, hustle, and sportsmanship. I think baseball needs a few less Manny's and a lot more Cal Ripkens.
